Simon

Simon is an approximately 3 year old, BC mix. Pulled from a shelter in West Texas in April 2020, Simon was extremely fearful and leash reactive. He spent the first several days in rescue with his head in a corner. He was never aggressive but would run and cower in a corner if pressed. Since his rescue, he has come leaps and bounds at his foster’s home. He loves to get pet and scratched, and has shown some ball and toy interest. He loves to play with other dogs, and is very food motivated.

Simon still has some fear of new people and the leash so will need a patient household to gain his trust. New people are scary so vet visits require him to be held while getting his shots. This might result in some fear-peeing but he never, ever, ever tries to bite. His foster mom can hug him and hold him and restrain him and is working on getting him used to the tug and pull of a leash but this will take time. He will need a secure back yard and a place to go when he gets scared, but he will reward you with the best smiles and happy wiggles when he realizes that you are his person and you won’t hurt him. He is house trained with a dog door, and will relax nicely in the office with nothing but a bone or ball to chew on while you WFH. Simon has never been around kids, so we would recommend a quiet home with older kids and adults only, and a fur-friend would be great. He’s moderately active and will run around outside but easily comes in and relaxes. He has such as happy disposition and loves belly rubs and treats. He does seems to prefer women to men, but can live with men in the house. Simon will benefit from a dog owner experienced with fearful dogs. While Simon has improved immensely, he still has times when he gets anxious and scared. He needs a gentle hand who can continue working with him to build trust.

Simon has some pretty severe allergies. He is currently on Apoquel daily and eats a hydrolyzed protein food.
