ADOPTION APPLICATION
Border Collie Save & Rescue’s #1 interest is in the continued well being of all dogs in our steward after they leave our care. For this reason, BCSAVE does not do what is commonly known as “open adoptions”. All BCSAVE adopters go through a vetting process in order for us to determine if they are a suitable home for adopting our dogs and to to help better understand which types of dogs the potential adopter is looking for. Once the vetting process is complete, we will work with the potential adopter in order to best match a dog to their living situation, lifestyle, and preferences.
Be aware that BCSAVE approves applicants to ADOPT from BCSAVE, but that doesn’t not mean every applicant is appropriate for every dog. All BCSAVE dogs are matched to applicants based on things like lifestyle and environment, so even if you are approved to adopt, we may not adopt a specific dog to you.
A lot of dogs that come into BCSAVE are immediately committed to pre-vetted applicants who are waiting on the right dog. We encourage potential applicants not to wait until the “perfect” dog comes along before starting the process.
Because we are entirely volunteer based, it may take up to 2 weeks to contact you after receiving your application.
ADOPTION PROCESS
- Initial Phone Screening: An initial “get to know you” phone call with a BCSAVE volunteer to go over the application, get more details about what the applicant is looking for, answer any questions the applicant has regarding the adoption processes.
- Virtual Home Visit: After the application and phone interview, we will request a virtual home visit to help insure our Border Collies are going to a suitable home for their particular needs.
- Find Your Dog: It is our goal to find appropriate homes for our dogs and will begin discussing specific dogs and working towards meet&greets with them.
- Meet and Adopt: Make arrangement to meet with a dog, and if everything goes as hoped, process the adoption.
Please ask us if you need any assistance or advice in bringing a new dog into your household and we will try and help in any way that we can.
We hope that our relationship with the adopter does not end at the adoption. We love updates, stories, braggings, tales, yarns, sagas, shenanigans, photos, and videos of all of our former rescue pups in their new furever homes with their new people. Tag us on social media, link to our website and Facebook page, or send us tweets and Snapchats. We love it all!
- All applicants must be of 18 years or older.
- BCSAVE does not guarantee any specific dog when you are going through our adoption process. BCSAVE has a long list of per-approved applicants looking for and waiting on the the right dog to come along. Many of the current dogs listed in the AVAILBLE section of the website or posted as COMING SOON on social sites may already have a pre-approved adopter.
a. The process for adoption is once you get approved after the home visit, we schedule another call to talk through what kind of dog you are looking for, let you know who is available at that time and who has a “waiting list”, and set expectations for time frames and next steps.
b. After the approval process, once we have a dog that is available to adopt, and you are next on that dog’s list and it’s a good fit, we will introduce you to the foster to coordinate a meeting.
- Travel:
a. Due to a large increase in new dog intake and in adoption applications, BCSAVE decided focus our limited volunteer resources and time on finding homes for as many of our pups as possible and priority will be given to potential adopters who are local or are willing to travel to meet/adopt a foster dog in the area the dog is currently fostered (typically within the DFW or Austin area).
b. If you are not able to travel to either DFW or Austin to adopt, we encourage you to look locally, as it may be weeks or months before we are able to finalize any adoption.
c. Out of state adopters: All transportation arrangements and fees are the sole responsibility of the adopter.
- No adoptions will be processed as “gifts”.
- All dogs, unless otherwise specified, come:
a. With a current HW- Test
b. Current on Local Vaccinations
c. Spayed/Neutered
d. Microchipped
e. On a HW & Flea preventative - BCSAVE cannot make any guarantees concerning the health, habits, temperament, background, or age of any dog being adopted.
- BCSAVE strives to ensure our dogs are only placed with adopters who we feel are best suited for a specific dog; as a result, BCSAVE may approve an applicant for adoption, but deny them a specific dog or dogs.
- All adoptions are at the sole discretion of BCSAVE, which reserves the right to deny any applicant for any reason.

In order for us to best focus our limited volunteer resources and time on finding homes for as many of our pups as possible while helping ensure the highest degree of adoption success, we are prioritizing adopters who can come to either the Dallas/ Fort Worth or Austin Texas areas to meet our pups and finalize adoptions locally.

Thank you for applying to adopt from Border Collie Save & Rescue!
We are honored that you have chosen Border Collie Save & Rescue to possibly help you find your next best friend.
As one of the few Border Collie rescues which adopts outside of our home state of Texas, we are seeing an increase in applications from across the US, but COVID-19 has upended our ability to coordinate out of state transports due to various restrictions and quarantine rules for crossing state lines.
BCSAVE is one of the few Border Collie rescues which adopts outside of their home state. COVID-19 has upended our ability to coordinate adoptions outside of Texas due to travel restrictions, quarantine rules, and an increase in demand which has strained our ability to process applications and adoptions.
As a result, BCSAVE decided that in order for us to best focus our limited volunteer resources on finding homes for as many of our pups as possible, we will be prioritizing adopters who can come to either the Dallas/ Fort Worth or Austin Texas areas to meet our pups and finalize adoptions locally.
If you are able to travel to the Dallas/ Fort Worth/ Austin areas to adopt a pup, you don’t need to do anything. One of our volunteers will reach out to you over the next 2 weeks to schedule a call to start the adoption process. Please check your spam folder in case an initial email gets missed, otherwise, please feel free to reach out to us if you haven’t heard from someone.
If you are not able to travel to us in either Dallas/ Fort Worth or Austin to adopt your FURever pup, please let us know. We will continue to keep you on our potential adopter list but do encourage you to look locally as it may be weeks or months before we are able to reach back out. Our ability to adopt out of state should become much easier as COVID-19 restrictions begin to lift.
Thank you for your understanding and patience. We understand that this may not be what everyone wants to hear but at this time, it is the best way for us to be able to assist our dogs with the limited resources at our disposal.

OWNER SURRENDER QUESTIONNAIRE
Be aware that BCSAVE stays extremely full and we might not be able to find an appropriate foster home for your dog. In order to determine if BCSAVE is the right rescue for a dog, and if we have an appropriate available foster, we have the owner fill out this Owner Surrender Questionnaire in order to help us see if and how we can assist. If we determine that a dog is a good fit for BCSAVE, and we can find a suitable foster, we may also require an in person assessment of the dog before we will commit to bringing them into BCSAVE.

- We often have a waiting list of fully vetted adoption applicants who are waiting for very specific types of dogs (it can be age, sex, “look”, color, size, herdy, high toy drive, couch potato, and just about anything else you can think of). We can see if any of them match up to your dogs, put them in touch with you directly, and help process the adoption.
- We can reach out to other rescues we partner with and provide them with the pictures and questionnaire to see if they can help.
