Butch is one of several pups rescued from a bad living situation in East Texas in mid-2020. All the pups rescued (Butch, Sundance, Mercedes, George, Martha, Sloane, and Doc) were essentially unsocialized and feral when they were trapped and over several trips, brought to BCSAVE. Their previous owner left the pups to live outside, without any medical care or regular feeding, and often breeding and then being lost to wild animals.

Butch is the senior of the group, and likely will never acclimate to people. He’s a crotchety old man who knows to come in the dog door when it thunderstorms but prefers to stay outside. He is heartworm positive but because of his age and lack of socialization, is going the slow kill route (monthly heartworm medication and monitoring). He is not leash trained or crate trained, though he never uses the bathroom in the house when he comes in. Otherwise, Butch is the kind of guy who does his own thing how and when he wants. He has learned to love the creature comforts of a solid dog house and a soft dog bed, and comes rambling over when he thinks there are treats to be had. He is fine with other dogs, paying them no mind but letting them know if they get in his face. He can be forever fostered with the right family who has some land, doesn’t expect much from a pup, and just wants to give Butch a place to live out the rest of his life.
