Dot was found in a horse barn in a rural part of Mississippi with a new litter of puppies. Both Dot and the puppies were rescued, and the puppies all found good homes but Dot was not a good candidate for adoption as she was extremely fearful of people. Luckily, our wonderful Louisiana partner was able to arrange a rescue angel to fly Dot to Texas, where a cadre of BCSAVE volunteers picked her up and got her to our staging foster. For the first several months, Dot was basically feral, unsocialized, afraid of everything and avoided all human contact.

About 7 yrs and 40 lbs, Dot has come SUCH a long way! She LOVES to give hugs and kisses. She sleeps in the bed, loves to chase her friends, and hangs out in the WFH office beautifully.
She still has challenges – she struggles on leash. She won’t go in a crate – you have to pick her up and put her in. She is very scared of new things, so you have to hold her tight and she barks while outside running a LOT.
Dot is looking for:
📌 A uber patient family who understand that Dot may never walk on leash and may only ever be a house dog
📌 A friend or 2 who she can play with that are either super tolerant of her barking OR can provide very gentle correction when she needs it
📌 A backyard to run in and a very secure fence
📌 Local (in TX) for so many reasons (‼️non-negotiable‼️)
Dot is a beautiful pup who just needs someone patient who can work with her through her fear of people and leashes. She has never been aggressive or mean, even when she was extremely scared. We think she can be trained to walk on a leash, but it will take some time. And as beautiful as she is, Dot is not for everyone. She will take some time to warm up to you. But if you do adopt, know that Dot will eventually reward you with smiles and kisses that are worth the wait!
