Background

Flash was born on a farm in the countryside, where his soft, gentle personality made him a target for more assertive dogs. Recognizing that he might thrive better in a family or active companion setting, his owners sought a new path for him.

Flash has spent his first year as a farm dog or in a kennel, with very little training or exposure to the outside world. Despite this, he has a gentle heart and approaches new situations with cautious skepticism. With the right family, patience, and encouragement, Flash has the potential to blossom into a confident, loyal companion.

Health

Flash is in excellent health and up to date on all vaccinations. He has good eyesight, no hearing issues, and is neutered. Flash is at a healthy weight with low body fat, good muscle mass, and a strong skeletal structure. He has excellent endurance, a smooth gait, and a steady stride, making him a well-balanced and agile dog.

He handles baths, brushing, and nail trims like a pro, making grooming an easy task. Since coming into rescue, he has been put on a diet to help with dry skin and coat, and his fur is already developing into shiny, soft, fluffy perfection.

Personality

Flash is a sweet, soft-hearted boy with a calm and gentle demeanor. He loves playing with other dogs, easily adapting to their play styles and taking corrections well. He’s still learning to confidently approach humans but shows a strong desire to please and thrives on praise.

Flash has an endearingly “floppy” personality—always trying to appease those around him. He’s unconfident at times, often crawling or slithering around in new situations, but it’s his way of showing his soft and submissive nature. He adores physical closeness, frequently leaning against you or trying to crawl up onto your lap for comfort and reassurance.

Flash has a keen sense of smell, and his nose is almost always to the ground, sniffing and searching. He’s naturally curious and loves to explore his environment through his strong tracking instincts, which keep him engaged and focused on his surroundings.

Like many Border Collies, Flash is susceptible to noise anxiety from loud or unexpected sounds such as gunshots, fireworks, backfiring cars, and thunder. If he hears these noises while outside, he may try to run, so a secure environment and close supervision during these moments are essential for his safety.

Flash responds beautifully to positive reinforcement and takes correction well from both humans and other dogs, making him a quick learner. His cautious nature may make him hesitant in new situations, but with patience and encouragement, his sweet personality shines through. Flash is the kind of dog who will build a deep bond with his family, always eager to please and share his quiet affection.

Home Life

Flash is adjusting to indoor living and learning how to be part of a household. His crate is his safe place, where he feels calm, quiet, and secure, always respecting his bedding and crate cover. While he’s not yet trustworthy to have free roam of the house, crating is an essential part of his routine, giving him a comfortable space to retreat to.

Flash is still working on potty training and leash skills but is making steady progress. He loves playing in the backyard and can spend all day outside, happily self-entertaining or enjoying the company of humans and other dogs. Whether he’s exploring, napping in the sun, or romping around, he’s content as long as he has space to roam.

Flash isn’t pushy about needing attention but will happily crawl up onto the couch or bed to snuggle with you when invited. He’s easygoing around neighbor dogs, showing no interest in fence fighting or excessive barking. While he thrives in outdoor spaces, he’s still building confidence indoors. He sometimes struggles to move from room to room, unsure about what might be around the corner, but with time and gentle encouragement, he’s making steady progress in his foster home.

Social

Flash loves car rides and is calm and comfortable traveling. He feels most at ease when outdoors, where he’s more confident and relaxed. He enjoys visiting fenced dog parks, where he interacts and plays wonderfully with other dogs.

While he’s not a runner, Flash cannot be trusted off-leash due to limited recall, so secure environments are essential for his safety. He’s more comfortable around strangers when outside and takes his time warming up in new situations. Flash isn’t interested in fetch or toys and is still figuring out his feelings about water and swimming. With his friendly, adaptable nature, he’s always eager to engage with other dogs and enjoys their company.

Sport

Flash shows signs of herding instinct typical for his breed and is praise-motivated, which could make him a good candidate for basic obedience or light activity-based training. However, he’s not currently food, bone, or toy motivated, so building his focus for specific sports may take extra time and patience.

Must Improve

Flash needs focused training to improve his recall, name recognition, and confidence in unfamiliar places. Continued house training and socialization with new people, animals, and environments will also be key to helping him thrive.

Looking for…

Flash is searching for a patient and loving family to help him grow into his best self. His ideal home includes:

  • A secure yard where he can play and explore.
  • A calm, understanding environment to help him build confidence.
