JC was surrendered to the shelter as a euthanasia request because he was 9 yrs old, morbidly obese, and the owner lost her home and is going into an in-patient mental health facility. The shelter instead convinced the owner to surrender JC in hopes of finding a new home.

JC is 102 lbs. The shelter says he is a sweet dog who really got the bad end of the deal. There was another dog in the home and the owner found a place for him to go, but no one wanted JC.

He will need to go on a diet (obviously), possibly with help from a nutritionist to make sure loses weight in the most healthy way. We will also need to monitor him for other health issues, including any joint or bones issue due to his age and weight. He needs a very special foster that can help him lose weight and get healthy again through a special, monitored diet and slow but steady exercise combined with vet check ups to make sure things are going well. Luckily, he is heartworm negative.

JC will not be available for adoption until he drops to a reasonable weight and we can be relatively sure his health is not impacted too badly.
