Prince

Prince was part of five Border Collies surrendered to the Abilene Shelter when his owner passed away. Initially, BCSAVE was told Prince was 10 years old but vet exams have aged him as young as 4 years old. We’ve aged him at 8 in 2020, just to be conservative. Prince is much more socialized and better adapted to being a house dog than the others he was rescued with. He is about 43 lbs and has shown some herding tendencies (wants to chase donkeys, cars, etc…), but nothing too serious. He is a moderately active dog otherwise, and gets along with most other dogs, though he does need careful introductions and can get aggressive towards certain dogs (unneutered males mainly). He does very well with kids and other people though. He is crate, leash and house trained, and is a great office dog or dog to just hang out with.

Prince is also heartworm positive and has started the fast kill treatment protocol. His treatment was finished in February and he will get retested in July. In addition, Prince has some underlying health issues that have caused some possible paralysis and/or drooping of his face and an unsteady gait at times. We think he has had a stroke or has a tumor and are currently treating him with steroids. Because of his ongoing health issues, Prince is currently being forever fostered by a wonderful family in College Station, TX.
