Rocky
Rocky is a stray out of the San Antonio area. About a year old and 36 lbs, he was found with a lame left leg. BCSAVE pulled him into our rescue with the help of our San Antonio volunteers and fosters and immediately took him to the vet, where xrays were done. We were astonished to find that Rocky had a metal rod in his foreleg that extended about 1″-2″ past his knee, which was why he could not bend or otherwise use his rear leg. Rocky was moved to the Dallas/ Fort Worth area to go to a specialty vet to see if we would be able to remove the rod and save his leg, but after consultation and more tests, it was determined that Rocky’s leg bone had fused into a straight position. With the bone locked and the muscles surrounding the leg atrophied, it was decided to remove Rocky’s left rear leg.
You would never guess that Rocky was missing a leg though! He is still active and running around, loving to play and wrestle with his foster sister. He’s a little crate reactive but will settle after several minutes and will rest in his crate with the door open. He likes to lay on your foot, and he’s not afraid of anywhere – goes in the shower, the laundry room, etc. He doesn’t love the vacuum, but tolerates it. He currently lives with cats and is doing but he’d probably be best with dog-savvy ones. Ball and tug are really fun, but he has an off switch and will make someone a great companion border collie.
