Teddy

Teddy is approximately 11 years and around 51 lbs. A senior ball dog, Teddy also has some current medical issues we are working to resolve. He has been diagnosed with perianal fistula, also known as anal furunculosis. A perianal fistula is a serious medical condition and are tunnel-like formations in the skin and deeper tissues that surround the anal area of dogs. The lesions can vary in severity but at first appear as small oozing holes in the skin and may become wide and deep and surround the entire circumference of the anus. Perianal fistulas may cause severe pain and discomfort and, if not controlled, may be responsible for a dramatic reduction in quality of life. Affected dogs may have concurrent chronic diarrhea because of inflammatory bowel disease; in fact, the two conditions may be related. Teddy also has some decrease in his liver function, possibly as a result of some of the medications he has been taking. Lastly, Teddy is heartworm positive, and his treatment for the heartworms will depend on how soon we can resolve the other conditions he is experiencing now.

Regardless of all these medical issues, Teddy has a great, gentle temperament and a cheery disposition. He LOVES to play frisbee and still has lots of get up and go. He gets along fine with other dogs, kids, and cats – pretty much ignoring everything to play with his ball. He loves to ride in the car and is as happy as a clam as long as he can be with his people. He will remain with his foster until we can get him healthy again and then he can be adopted by someone who is looking for a sweet, friendly, moderately active senior ball dog who just wants to play ball with you.
