Merlot is an approximately 1 year old Border Collie/ Heeler mix who came to BCSAVE from the Midland area. A stray, Merlot was pulled out of the shelter and volunteers drove her to BCSAVE, where we immediately noticed that she was very pregnant. One vet confirmation later, and BCSAVE had its first pregnant mom in rescue. 🙂 A fabulous foster volunteered to take in Merlot and care for her through the rest of her pregnancy and after the puppies were born and weaned. Merlot had seven healthy puppies; three girls and four boys (see the Wine and Cheese litter).
Merlot is a sweet, gentle soul, even when caring for seven hungry puppies. She will likely be a moderately active pup, though her energy level might change once her baby-rearing duties are done. She gets along great with other dogs and loves people. She will not be available for adoption until late July/ early August, after her puppies are all weaned but if you are interested in this gentle mama, we are accepting applications now.
